sugar shock

  1. Wow. Good for you. I'm totally impressed. Do you feel better/sleep better now? I can't do anything cold turkey - it's why I'm currently on Weight Watchers so I can just learn the fine art of moderation. I once was drinking iced coffee from McD's everyday and then read what was in there (sadly, not just coffee) and stopped immediately. I had the most paralyzing headache for 3 days! Man, what was in there?! Gross!

  2. Oh my! Congrats to you! I tried to do the same a few years ago but sadly fell off the sugar wagon again. Cold turkey didn't work for me so moderation is key. Unfortunately my guy is an all-or-nothing type so if it's in the house, he eats it and can't do the moderation thing. I guess I need to keep a little secret stash somewhere for myself and let him think there's nothing in the house! xo best of luck!!

  3. Oh Ashlyn:( I'm completely addicted to my morning cup of coffee. A Grande-4 raw sugar- latte to be exact. Yep, Starbucks. I tried quitting once and suffered the most brutal of headaches for a solid week! But I did it. I just didn't want to be controlled by that "need" for caffeine. My success? Short lived. 3 months. I have no shame or self control.... :( I realized my one cup of coffee wasn't going to kill me, but my erratic driving while forcing myself not to turn in to my fav Starby's was!

  4. Look away from the coke Ashlyn ;) Wow, realy good for you, it's so great {and inspiring!} that you cut sugar out like that. I'm making some changes to my diet too and being more concious about what I eat. I love chocolate but I know that I need to cut down too :(

  5. Thanks for your sweet comments,

I am trying to look away from that coke!

We will see how I do. I have tried to do this before, but it was just cutting down. It seemed like I found it way too easy to slip back into my regular habits...that's why this time I decided to go cold turkey.

My moods and sleep patterns have been a lot better. I haven't been getting headaches either. I always thought it was sinus stuff, but maybe it was the highs and lows of my sugar intake.

  6. I love my sweets as well - I have given up things cold turkey too and after awhile you find you really don't want the item as much. Hopefully that happens for you too! My belly can't handle much pop so that is always an easy one. A few root beers or Vernor's a year is all I can handle. Chocolate is my nemesis. Once again, such a pretty post!

  7. Ashlyn! Congrats!! You are just getting past the really hard phase. I went off sugar 3 years ago. It was hard but I had to because it was making me very sick. The headaches went away, etc. What I craved the most was fruit! I couldn't believe it. I didn't crave ice cream or even chocolate. All I wanted was fruit. I slowly re-introduced lower glycemic fruits back into by diet (mostly berries) I stayed strong for over 2 years but in the last year I have completely fallen off the wagon again and I can really tell the difference. The headaches have returned and so have the sleepless nights (as well as my fat pants!) Also, the cravings for every bad sweet imaginable have returned. I need to get tough and climb back on the wagon again. Thanks for the reminder that I would feel SO MUCH better if I control myself a little more!

  8. Yahoooo for you my friend...I have tried this and it is funny how after a few days you really don't crave the sugar anymore. I need to try it once again...chocolate is my big thing...sounds like I am not the only one. Hugs .xoxoxo

  9. Oh Ashlyn, just keep on going in this good vibe! Your body will love it and after that so will you.

Just keep in mind: diabetics (too bad I am one of them) use coke when their sugar level is too low (hypo) and only a few sips of coke is enough. So think again when you see coke ... it is really really bad stuff.
(I am sorry if I sound like a teacher now...it was ment to be helpful-thinking from a friend!)

    love Maaike
